Consultation on Forest Road/Redwood Road Junction

Jamie Hepburn, SNP MSP for Central Scotland, has launched a consultation on the safety implications of the Forest Road/Redwood Road junction, following recent accidents on the stretch of road. Mr Hepburn has issued the consultation to residents who live in the streets immediately adjacent to the stretch of road.

Mr Hepburn had been contacted by concerned constituents regarding the safety of the Forest Road/Redwood Road junction. Subsequently, Mr Hepburn wrote to North Lanarkshire Council, pressing for improved safety on the stretch of road – either in the form of a roundabout or traffic lights – on a number of occasions. Such overtures were, however, consistently dismissed.

Previous efforts had been made by former Councillor William Carmichael, but this bid to improve the safety of the junction was rejected too.

Mr Hepburn has therefore taken the decision to ask local people what their views are about the safety of the junction. He will communicate the findings directly to North Lanarkshire Council.

Commenting, Mr Hepburn said:

“Having been contacted by a number of concerned constituents, I am keen to determine local opinion on the safety of this junction.

“The safety of this junction has been raised in the past by former Councillor William Carmichael but the idea was dismissed then by North Lanarkshire Council, as it is being now. This is in spite of existing local concerns.

“I hope local residents will take a few moments to complete my survey, and return it as soon as possible.  I’m looking forward to seeing the responses, and will pass the results on to North Lanarkshire Council, for their consideration.”
