Hepburn’s Latest Actions in Cumbernauld Bus Station Campaign

Agu 21, 2009

Jamie Hepburn, MSP for Central Scotland, has offered to facilitate a meeting between transport authorities in order to progress the idea of a new bus station for Cumbernauld.  His actions come after the issue was raised by a constituent at the recent advice and information session Jamie held in Cumbernauld New Town Hall.  Jamie has also written to North Lanarkshire Council asking for information about air quality monitoring at the existing bus stances in the Town Centre.

Jamie has been pressing the case for a new bus station in Cumbernauld since his election as an MSP for the Central Scotland region in 2007.  He has also written to the operators of bus stations in Scotland’s other New Towns to learn how they operate and visited Glenrothes bus station to see it in action.

Commenting, Jamie Hepburn MSP said:

“I am determined not to let the issue of a proper bus station for Cumbernauld go, and will continue to press the relevant authorities to move the idea forward.  In my latest correspondence, I’ve reiterated my willingness to convene a meeting between the relevant bodies that can help make some progress.

“Air quality at the current stances is also a real concern, especially during spells of the warm and muggy weather we’ve experienced recently.  Even if the quality is within regulated limits, waiting for a bus shouldn’t have to be the unpleasant experience it can often be at the current stances.

“Cumbernauld needs a decent new bus station, and I hope the authorities I have written to will listen sympathetically to the case.”
