£1bn Rail Investment Will Electrify Central Scotland, Says Hepburn

Agu 18, 2009

Jamie Hepburn, SNP MSP for Central Scotland, has warmly welcomed reports that the Scottish Government and Network Rail have agreed a funding package for a £1bn investment in the region’s rail network, which will include electrification of the rail line through Cumbernauld by 2016.  The investment will also affect users of the Croy station as the main Glasgow-Edinburgh line is upgraded, with journey times expected to be as low as 35 minutes between the cities.

Commenting, Jamie Hepburn MSP said:

“I’m delighted with this news, which will transform the experience of rail users in Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and surrounding areas.

“I’ve been campaigning for electrification of these lines since before my election to the Scottish Parliament, and this news shows that the Scottish Government is committed to delivering real improvements to transport in Central Scotland.

“Further details of the plans are expected in the coming months, and I’m sure people across the area will be looking forward to learning more about the proposals.”
